The Library is for You!

The Library belongs to every resident of Hopkins County! You (yes you!) are encouraged to use our resources via Madisonville Main Branch, Dawson Branch Library, Bookmobile, or digital resources.

Library cards are free!

If you are a current Hopkins County resident, property owner, working in Hopkins County, or a full-time student, you are eligible for a FREE library card.

You’ll Need To Bring

In order to obtain your library card you must provide the following:

• Official form of photo ID with current address.
• If ID does not contain your current address, please bring an current postmarked piece of mail showing your name and current address
  • utility bill
  • medical bill
  • paystub
  • property bill

Types of Cards

Adult Card: users 18+  years old

By providing the aforementioned requirements, full access to all library resources will be available to the user. New users are limited to two (2) items, but may have up to twenty (20) items once the initial items are returned and a relationship is established with HCMPL.

Juvenile Cards: 3 – 17 years old

A legal guardian must be present to establish an amount for minors aged 3-17 years.  Full access to library resources with the exception of audiovisual titles (DVD & records) and items from our Library of Things catalog.

Juvenile Limited Cards :  3 – 17 years old

In situations where the legal guardian is not available but another responsible adult is willing to take responsibility for the account, a limited card may be issued. Access is limited to 3 books.

HCS Online Only Student Card: current students in Hopkins County

Please reach out to your school librarian or media specialist in order to obtain access to digital only content through this partnership with Hopkins County Schools. With adult permission, students will obtain a year of digital only access HCMPL resources.

Out of County Cards

For patrons who do not live, work, or own property in Hopkins County, but still want to be a part of our library community, this card if for you! Full access is provided for a yearly fee of $20.00 for users 18 and up.
